This, sadly, is becoming a more Popular-Phenomenon: Persons ponfiticating/claiming that al-Qur’ān/The Qur’ān is the Only-Text necessary for one to be a Muslim & to function properly Islāmically. This Pathological-Madhab/Religio-Posture, which has evolved into a Hizb/Religio-Sectarian Grouping, known as al-Qur’āniyyah/Qur’ānism. This Hizb deems to encourage Muslims to abandon the Sunnah/Prophetic-Tradition, not only as per following it. But, this goes much deeper down the Rabbit-Hole…their Religio-Posture more sinisterly pontificates/claims that the Sunnah itself isn’t even at-Tanzīl/Revelation, just as The Qur’ān is. Now, for Obvious-Reasons, this Type/Kind of Religio-Posture is not only Theologically-Problematic, but equally Theologically-Dangerous.
The Purpose of this Article, actually, is to breakdown what the Qur’ānī/Qur’ānist-Arguments are & how to textually/intelligently dispute those exact Same-Arguments:
1. an-Naskh-ul-Qur’ān/Revelatory-Abrogation of The Qur’ān-
This is an Argument which is common amongst Qur’ānist, suggesting that The Qur’ān & the Sunnah don’t intersect, define, refine, correct one another, etc. Particularly as per the Naskh of The Qur’ān via the Sunnah: this is something which Qur’ānists completely reject. However, there’s Revelatory/Textual-Evidence that both The Qur’ān & the Sunnah affect one another via an-Naskh. The Naskh of The Qur’ān is manifested via 3-Categories:
a. Complete-Removal of Verses from The Qur’ān textually & them being replaced textually with Other-Verses, regardless to whether they were Makkan-Verses or Madinan-Verses.(Noble-Qur’ān: Chpt.2, V.106; Chpt.87, V.6&7; at-Tabarī; as-Suyūtī)
b. Makkan-Verses from The Qur’ān being replaced by Madinan-Verses from The Qur’ān as per at-Tashrī` (Legislation): al-Ahkām (Judgments/Rulings).(Noble-Qur’ān: Chpt.13, V.39; Chpt.17, V.86; at-Tabarī; as-Suyūtī)
c. Verses from The Qur’ān being replaced by the Sunnah/Prophetic-Tradition, as per at-Tashrī`/al-Ahkām (Legislation/Ru: Wife-Beating, al-Mut`ah/Temporary-Marriage, etc.(Noble-Qur’ān: Chpt.4, V.24&34; Mālik; Abū-Dāwud; at-Tabarī; as-Suyūtī)
2. Mistrust/Distrust of Masānid (Hadīth/Narration-Collections)–
This is literally one of the most commonly used Qur’ānī-Arguments. They pontificate/claim that since the Masānid were compiled by Human-Beings then, by definition, it’s to be Matrūk/Religio-Rejected.
As per the Qur’ānist (those whom claim to only adhere to The Qur’ān), referring to the Hadīth/Narration by Abī-Sa`īd al-Khudhrī (May Allah be pleased with him), concerning the Command of Muhammad (Peace be upon him) to document/record only The Qur’ān & not the Sunnah/Prophetic-Tradition (al-Bukhārī)…there’s 5-Things one must/should introspect upon.
They are the following:
a. How do they even know whether or not this is: Authentic, Reliable, Weak, Fabricated, etc.?!!!
b. The Fact that this Narration has been authenticated (as being Sahīh/Authentic) thus proves that the Religio-Postures of Muhammad (Peace be upon him) are just as much at-Tanzīl/Revelation as The Qur’ān itself.
c. The Fact that they’re literally relying upon a Hadīth/Record of the Sunnah/Prophetic-Tradition, to attempt to disprove the Validity of the Hadīth/Kitābah (Documentation) of the Sunnah, thus proves that the Sunnah is Mahlūl/Mafrūdh (Islāmically-Allowed/Mandated) to be recorded.
d. Had this Hadīth not/never been recorded, realistically we would’ve never even known that Muhammad had even stated this.
e. How do you know whether or not this Hadīth/Documentation of the Sunnah wasn’t made Mansūkh (Abrogated/Canceled) via Other-Nuzūl (Revelatory-Texts)?!!!
3. The Classic “Hadīth vs. Bible/Hadīth-Bible Comparison” Argument-
There’s a Pathological Pseudo-Narrative, pontificated by both Muslims & Non-Muslims alike, that Hadīth-Collections are exactly like The Bible, as per “mixing Truth with Falsehood”. The very 1st-Time that I was ever confronted with this Argument: I was 17-Years old at the Time. Fake-Wokers (those upon that Fake-Wokeness Rhetoric) actually, literally, spew this Rhetoric all of the Time. Yet, don’t be worried…here’s some Useful-Tools to help combat those Kinds/Types of Arguments:
a. Both the Qur’ān & the Sunnah/Prophetic-Tradition are at-Tanzīl/Revelation.(Noble-Qur’ān: Chpt.53, V.3&4) This Revelatory-Text, alone, proves that anything which Muhammad (Peace be upon him) stated, did, etc. regarding al-Islām is automatically at-Tanzīl, whether it’s within The Qur’ān or not.
b. The Bible isn’t/has never been at-Tanzīl, but rather Distorted-Remnants/Versions of at-Tanzīl. Also, the Bible pontificates/promotes ash-Shirk/Association & al-Kufr/Disbelief.(at-Tabarī, as-Suyūtī, ibn-Kathīr)
c. The Qur’ān, by Virtue of how Allah personally describes it, within itself, is a Hadīth. Allah, in fact, literally refers to The Qur’ān within itself, Word4Word, as “al-Hadīth/Hadīth”.(Noble-Qur’ān: Chpt.18, V.1-6)
d. Literally: the Same-Persons, via as-Salaf (as-Sahābah/the Companions [May Allah be pleased with them altogether] & Generations-1&2 of at-Tābi`īn/the Followers), whom’re Humanly-Responsible for documenting The Qur’ān also in turn documented the Sunnah/Prophetic-Tradition as well.
e. The same Mustalah/Authentication-Process which the Sunnah underwent, The Qur’ān underwent as well. And, this is a Non-Debatable Religio-Historical Fact. Also, the Mustalah of The Qur’ān was literally that much easier than the Mustalah of the Sunnah: in fact every/all Authentic-Hadīth (Narration/Documentation) concerning The Qur’ān is Scholastically-Classified as Sahīh-Mutawātir/Undoubtedly-Authentic.
f. By Virtue of their Religio-Posture, they clearly don’t even know or care to know what the Term “Hadīth” actually means. The Word/Term “Hadīth” means: Story/Tale, Relation, Narrative/Narration, Document/Documentation, Record/Recording, etc.(Lisān-ul-`Arab: Lexicon of the Arabic-Language, ibn-Manzhūr)
