Gareth Bryant’s Thanksgiving Spoiler-Alert:

Standard

While all of you are bustin’ down a big ol’ bird, called a Turkey, to the white-meat…just remember some pretty important things:

1. Gratitude/Giving Thanks for what Allah the Creator/Lord of the Universe, has granted each & every one of us on Earth, shouldn’t/mustn’t be limited to only the commercialized-celebration of 1-holiday, only 1-day out of the entire year-Thanksgiving is a concept that is supposed to be respected/observed 24/7 all-year round.

2. Since you’re gonna celebrate this holiday regardless to whatever I say, at least offer some of your many dishes to those whom are in peril, whom cannot afford to feed themselves and/or are out in the streets during these times of the year, right here in our local residencies, of our native cities, nations, etc.

3. Being grateful for what one has also entails being grateful for what hasn’t befallen you: there are countless millions of members of our Humanity, who will probably never experience the luxury of sitting at anyone’s dinner-table, enjoying monstrous amounts of food, which we selfishly stuff our faces with, while throwing the rest away, not realizing, nor even caring, that that food which we waste could’ve been used to relieve at least some of our fellow Humans from Hunger, at least for 1-day.

Blaming The Victims: Rape on Campus and Hook-Up Culture with Caroline Heldman

Standard

This is really sad:

Social Action 2014

Rape on college campus, hook-up culture and the miscarriage of justice against rape victim, Norma Patricia Esparza is discussed by Occidental College professor Caroline Heldman. Examining how campus security and society works against women at universities, plus the political climate and underlying racism against President Obama, Heldman delivers her insight on this Media Mayhem interview hosted by Allison Hope Weiner.

GUEST BIO:
Caroline Heldman has published in the top journals in her field and co-authored Rethinking Madame President: Are We Ready for a Woman in the White House? Prior to teaching at Occidental College, Heldman taught at Whittier College, Fairfield University, and Rutgers University.
Heldman has also been active in “real world” politics as a congressional staffer, campaign manager, campaign consultant, and political activist. She drove to New Orleans to help rebuild the city after Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast in 2005, and she has returned many times…

What Would a Global Movement to Ground the Drones Look Like?

Standard

Death to Drone-Strikes:

Come Home America

by Joe Scarry

The 2013 CODEPINK Drones Summit has made it clear to me that the global movement against drones is happening.

I opened my computer this morning to see this image:

Imran Khan addressing a massive crowd at the #PakistanAgainstDrones
protest at Peshawar yesterday. (Photo via @AhmerMurad)

This is a rally in Pakistan to stop US drone killings. (In fact, it has morphed into a movement to resist NATO military operations in the region.) Many of us who weren’t in Pakistan participated in this protest by holding rallies where we were (for instance, in London), or by participating virtually via the #PakistanAgainstDrones campaign on Twitter.

Responses to my calling out the term ‘abeed’

Standard

Right on target…Thank you so much, @DawudWalid for writing this article…Much ❤ & appreciation:

Weblog of Dawud Walid

Two months ago, I wrote an oped titled “Fellow humans are not abeed” for the Arab American News to address the usage of the term abeed, meaning slaves, used by many Arabs to describe black people.  After receiving some positive feedback from some of my Arab-American friends, primarily in Metro Detroit, I decided to search Twitter for the usage of this term in varying transliterations (abeed, 3abeed, 3beed, 3bid, 3abid & 3abed).  What I found was very casual usage of the term, almost exclusively from teenagers and young adults, who are Arab-Americans and appear to have been raised in the USA.

I decided at this point to not comment directly to those tweeps, but to merely tweet my article at them with the hopes that they read it and stop calling black people slaves.  What I’ve experienced from doing this as well as later engaging some of these tweeps in…

People never want You for You:

Standard

gareth-bryant-eid-pics-23.jpg

Author’s-Note:
I just felt like writing down some thoughts, about how people would rather see others in a false-light, then through an authentic-lens, how they would rather others be fake then to be real. Don’t worry, this poem is not about any particular individual/individuals. So, I don’t want anyone contacting me, questioning, challenging me, as to whether or not I’m takin’ shots at them indirectly. This poem is as Universal as it gets and applies to anyone/everyone, myself, firstly.

Fallacies are more desirable than Realities:

People always chase that false-image, of who & what they want to see…
…But, then, when proven wrong, wonder, “How can this possibly be?!!!”.

You, as the individual, are always depicted by other peoples’ illusions & perceptions…
…However, once you keep yourself true, they don’t want that; they are ever suspicious.

You can never be the true you, without others assuming, dubbing you dishonest…
…They accuse you of the most outlandish things, their attacks can be the coldest.

But, they do not care; for most, it’s exclusively how they want and expect you, to them, to be…
…They don’t want the real you; their constructed illusions, only, are what they want to see see.

They will call you a Liar, only because you don’t fit the criterion of a person that they desire…
…Whenever you don’t follow the script of their liking, they’re ready to cast you into blazing fire.

Whatever skills Allah has given you, use them with much haste…
…The truth of one’s self is precious, don’t ever let it go to waste.

There are many dark forces out here, in this Mundane, who want to drag you down, to shame…
…And, when you’re dead & gone, they’ll pretend to miss you, and they’ll even speak your name.

But, they don’t care: to them, once they’re done with you, you’re just as useless as an Autumn-Leaf flying in the air…
..It’s completely up to you, to stay true to what’s inside you; never let your faith in Allah falter; never sink into despair.

Whenever you feel like the World is on your shoulders, and you have no friends, just remember that I’ve been there…
…But, I found Allah with me, every step of the way, protecting me from the harms of those who only pretended to care.

When the People desert you, always know that Allah won’t…
…When people violate on their promises, now that He don’t.

When friends becomes enemies, and confidants become betrayers…
…Remember that Allah is by your side, just maintain 5-daily Prayers.

Always keep His remembrance in your heart & mind…
…None is worship-worthy, but He, only He is Divine.

His Book is pure and its message is true…
…He sent His guidance just for me & you.

Maintain this premise until you die…
…In the Paradise, I hope you reside.

The “Child-Marriage” Issue: I’d rather call it Youth-Marriage:

Standard

Youth Marriages pic

Author’s Note:
Has anyone ever noticed that when it comes to the issue of “Child-Marriage”, only the Western-World uses the term “Child”? There’s a very important reason for this: they want people to get accustom to people always assuming that Men are marrying girls, under the age of Puberty, which is utterly perverse, in nature. This is exactly what happens, when one has the power over Language: when one controls Language, they can control how people interpret Law, Life, etc. However, in the Western-World, the issue of “Child-Marriage” has only recently become an issue, relative to the pathological rise & growth of Feminism, which has always (both historically & contemporarily) proves to be not only very biased/1-sided but also extremely hypocritical.(To learn more about Feminsim: https://garethbryant.wordpress.com/2011/10/19/bothmisogynyfeminismareevilandhereswhy)

1. Firstly, Islamically, the definition of a “Child” is one whom has not yet reached Balaghah/Puberty.(Abu-Dawud, Lisan-ul-`Arab: Lexicon of the Arabic-Language)

2. Secondly, when it comes to marriages, if there is a situation, where there is an arranged marriage-agreement between families, tribes (which is respectively very different than Forced-Marriages, “Kidnap-Marriages”, etc.), and the like, takes place before both the potential bridegroom & bride, or even if just the bridegroom or bride whom is under the age of Balaghah, then their is a period of time in which there is a respective waiting-period, which is supervised by the families, until the marrying parties are both old enough to either say yes or no and/or consummate their respective marriage.(Malik)

3. The most-famous example is that of Muhammad (Peace be upon him), in which after Allah had ordained that he marry `A’ishah (May Allah be pleased with her), the daughter of Abi-Bakr (May Allah be pleased with him): she remained with her own respective family, until it was confirmed that she had reached Balaghah. And, the reason why this is so important is because, Islamically, it is Mahrum to have any sexual-contact with any Human being, whom has not reached Balaghah.(al-Bukhari)

4. This is very crucial to know, as Muslims, because this is one of the most-slanderous insults which ignorant Muslims, and Islamophobes, generally attribute to Muhammad : Child-Molestation via marrying `Ai’shah at age 9, even though, ironically, not even his own religious-enemies, during his own lifetime, the Pagan-Arabs, ever accused him of something so disgusting as Child-Molestation, and they had accused him of some pretty ugly things.

5. It’s really ironic that most people who advocate that young-people don’t marry young argue about the health-risks of getting married young…well:

a. What about the health-risks of casual-sex, enjoyed by so many, whom are unmarried all across the Globe?

b. What about the health-risks of Homosexual-Sex (particularly/especially Male-on-Male/Anal-Sex)?

6. Although it is true that early-marriage does disrupt education, but, there are a lot more things which disrupt education as well, like:

a. Economic-Exploitation, which the Western-World enjoys, because, we just love fancy clothes & techno-savvy phones, made by workers whom would probably never get the chance to own anything which they make, for Western-World/Global markets, even if they saved every penny of their earnings for an entire year.

b. Wars in these same places where Youth-Marriages take place, as a result of the insatiable pathological craving for influence, power, control over the planet’s resources, all in the covert name/facade of Freedom/Democracy.

c. Educational-Exploitation, as a direct result of ruined infrastructure of these same nations, which the Western-World has invaded and turned upside-down via military, economic, political, and social destruction.

So, in conclusion, this issue is an open-shut-case: the issue of Youth-Marriage is just not what the Western-World vilifies it to be.

Gareth Bryant’s Poetic-Commentary on the film, “12 Years A Slave”:

Standard

Solomon Northup pic

Author’s Note:
“12 Years A Slave” is a movie, an internationally celebrated film, chronicling the life & times of a Solomon Northup, from 1841-1853, an African American, free, and not just free, but, born-free, a native of Saratoga, New York. An outspoken, well-spoken, intelligent, family-man, whom is also, well-traveled, well-experienced, well-skilled, in the musical & vocational-arts of the time in which he lived. Yet sadly, he was captured & subsequently sold into Slavery in the Antebellum American-South: his life turned for the worst, in ways that prior to him deceived & captured, thus thrown unjustly into the world of bondage, as well as forced-servitude, would’ve/could’ve never imagined, before that had occurred-This is his story, in my poetic-words.

Hope that Remains in the Heart:

Although a freeman from birth, he was coerced, forced, tricked by two menacing Slave-Hunters from the South.
They pretended to be his friend: lured him to the Nation’s Capitol and tainted the wine that went into his mouth.

These persons offered him an opportunity to earn extra-money for his family.
Little did he know that he was being set-up to endure a decade-long tragedy.

Drunk and helpless, he was bounded and sold to Men looking for someone else, he just fit the “description”.
Any Black in those days would’ve “fit the description” & all you needed to be guilty was a tanned-complexion.

But, as hard as those who held him hostage abused him, they couldn’t make him a Slave in his mind and heart.
He did not know what would become of him next. But, yet, he had held on to fact that he was free from the start.

His first trials of being a Slave were being held, against his will, within the same exact city which was the center of false-liberty.
These United States, who fought Great Britain decades yore, for freedom, had denied its own natives of the taste of Humanity.

He himself was beaten & whipped, in order to tear away his dignity, just as the lash had teared his tender flesh.
He, along with his ethnic brethren, had been subjugated to toil day and night, appeasing their masters, no rest.

Men were separated from their wives, and daughters, forced to know the heinous violations, set-out by their captor’s lusts.
These Women were the play-things of Slave-Owners, to be used, manipulated sexually, they couldn’t dare make any fuss.

These unspeakable rapes of the body, mind, and spirit, caused many to prefer death over life, better to succum to demise than strife.
However, this Man, born a Human, lowered to a boy, an animal, learned to become a Man, once again, through ambition, endurance.

Yet, throughout all of which was imposed upon him, he was never bitter or lost any Hope.
Constant thoughts and yearning of being reunited with his family always helped him cope.

He was betrayed by those whom he trusted, yet still learned to confide & be confident in the goodwill of his fellow Man.
Little did he know that all of what he had suffered would yield him light at the end of the tunnel, all part of Allah’s plan.

Divine-Providence triumphed, regardless of lack of consequence on part of Slaveowners, Taskmasters, who dehumanized.
After 12-years of wrongful captivity, he was founded, by the help of a Man of conscience & his freedom was finally realized.

He authored his incredible experiences, becoming internationally renown, helping to spark, catalyze the movement called Abolition.
Being an inspiration, to all those who were freed & bondaged, that Hope is not lost, that there are in fact ways to achieve liberation.

His life is now a celebrated open-book…
…Learn about him take a peek, a look.

He has been able to relate his story, which has been lived by so many others…
…Through him, we have a clear glimpse of the suffering of our Human brothers.

How he died and where he’s buried isn’t now known, but that’s okay…
…His resolve, courage, legacy, must be shared with the World today.

Obama has brought Change, but not the Change We wanted:

Standard

gareth-bryant-eid-pics-23.jpg

You’ve changed the way that Politicians lie, how our mothers & widows cry:

Drone-strikes knock-down our towns, there’s countless shattered bodies around…
…You’ve turned America upside down, with your slick talk, and your cool sound.

You’ve even caused those who believed you to scorn you…
…Who would’ve thought that this would be your colors true.

You condemn tyrants in other lands, but ironically, have become one yourself…
…You ordered the death of Al Awlaki without just reason, his memory shelved.

Stimulus-Package, you can have it back…
…Obamacare: that whole shit is wack!!!

You being the first Non-White President does not make you any less impressive…
…Compared to your many Presidential predecessors, you are just as oppressive.

I am not in awe of your presence, glamour or glitter…
…You don’t deserve a pass because you’re ½ Nigger.

If you really wanna help people, then stop being a puppet for the devilish, wealthy, elite…
…Supporting Monsanto: you’ve signed bills into law, to ensure their victory & our defeat.

You painted yourself with the Sheep’s wool…
…You did a great job playing us for the fool.

You’ve changed the way that Politicians lie, how our sisters & daughters cry:

Who knew that you were just the Wolf, all along…
…Continuing where Bush left off, doing the wrong.

We’re in the lands that you ordered, approved, to bomb daily…
…There’s so many bodies, our families don’t know how to bury.

Our children are alone, orphaned, because of the lies of the former Presidents that you still promote…
…You dare pledge, swearing, to protect the same nation you have deceived, with your arrogant gloat.

It’s very plain to see where your heart is and how it is always driven…
…You’re on a Pharaonic agenda: kill the Men & spare the Women.

However, we will not run, we are not afraid, we won’t beg for mercy, looking down the barrel of a gun…
…Our victory is from Allah, kill as many as you wish, we will be in Paradise, with our Lord, having fun.

While we’re living, we will fight and resist you, til the last Man, we don’t care if you get mad…
…We are the Muslims, unshaken & unafraid to say, live, the true meanings of the word Jihad.

We will fight you, regardless of the odds, with our smarts, and our arms…
…We will not be tricked into raising a white flag, because of your charms.

When the dust finally settles, you will not be among the Winners…
…It’s all because you’ve chosen to be on the side of the Sinners.
