A Necessary Ramadhan Personal-Reflection In Mercy!!!

Standard

gareth-bryant-eid-pics-23.jpg

Here’s a story for the Record-Books:

Ramadhan 1435 AH/2014 CE…I went to Masjid Ar-Rahman, on 29th St bet. 5th Ave & Broadway, in Manhattan, NYC-After making the congregational Maghrib/Sunset Prayer, my shoes go missing. I’m honestly mad as Hell: those Sneakers were brand-new & fresh out the box, I barely had them for a whole week, I got them for free…they were a gift. So, you can understand why I was duly pissed all the way off!!! I felt so violated that someone, a Muslim, would dare to steal something during Ramadhan in the Mosque no less. I was just thinking in my mind what I would do, and how would I hurt this Person who took what was mine, if I woulda caught-up to them. It even got to the point when I was yelling, and causing a scene, concerning what was taken from me. Some other Muslim-Brothers attempted to clam me down, but it just wasn’t working: I came in the Mosque with my Sneakers, and I had wanted to leave with my same Sneakers. But, guess what happens next?

Check-out how merciful Allah, the Creator/Lord of the Universe is:

1. He bestowed mercy upon the one who took my footwear, so I would not have acted out of anger against a fellow Muslim, during Ramadhan of all times.

2. He touched the heart of a Muslim brother who volunteered to give me his own shoes.

3. He touched the heart of another Muslim brother who actually drove me to a sneaker-store & bought me a brand-new pair of Sneakers…cash, which ironically were fresher & cheaper than the sneakers that I had gotten taken from me at this Mosque…the Sneakers which were taken from me were the Nike Andre Agassis, in Dead-stock/Brand-New condition. But, then the brother had bought me a pair of Nike ACGs, also in Dead-Stock/Brand-New condition.

4. Most importantly: the person who took my Sneakers actually did me a favor, because along with my shoes being taken, then perhaps a portion of my Sins have also been taken from me, which will make it easier to meet Allah on the Day-of-Standing, because the less Sins that a person has on their back, the better for them, when it comes to being judged by Allah on the Day of Days…So, I still considered myself a Winner.

The Stillness of Loneliness:

Standard

Pitch black, quiet…nothing moves, it’s silent.
Darkness covers the Sky as I tread defiant.

I once was beloved, now I am so hated.
At one time victorious, now so defeated.

Loneliness fills all of my mind with agony.
Still as a stagnant River frozen by apathy.

Around many, yet distant from all.
None to feel my pain, hear my call.

Looking for closeness with anyone.
What a test for me, to be so alone.

Oftentimes, I feel dead, yearning for the free-flow of Life.
No worries about foes or dangers, not even fears of strife.

Alas, the irony is that there’s a morbid comfort in Obscurity.
It sometimes protects us from self-torture & offers security.

Apathetic Times

Standard

We live in the days of Malice…
…selfishness make us callous.

All we desire is to pursue our own wants…
…we live by immorality, demonic thoughts.

All day in, all day out…
…we complain & shout.

Forgetting just all too often…
…to be grateful for something.

We look down upon those who have less…
…thinking material things equal success.

It’s like we only concern ourselves with Fashion’s latest trends…
…or how many millions our favorite celebrity makes and spends.

We worry too much about when’s the next time we will eat Steak or Lobster…
…while millions of People on the Planet die because they lack clean Water.

But, in the end, we just chase the Illusion…
…to an dauntingly never ending conclusion.

We perceive that this is all there is to life…
…attaining things while causing others strife.

There will be a day when we will regret not caring for one another…
…we’ll be shamed for treating our fellow Man as less than a brother.

There will be fear, we will shed tears…
…and know that this day is very near.

Yasmin Mogahed’s position on the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict:

Standard

Yasmin Mogahed pic

Author’s-Note:
Yasin Mogahed’s spin on the issue takes us to a place that we ca all relate to: it sets us up & forces us to truly reflect upon the different scenarios that she presents, and how we would view them, had they been in place of the Palestinian-Israeli issue.

I used to wonder why some Palestinian people would engage in actions that could only provoke the aggressor further. Then I realized that to ask a people to live quietly, while they have no justice and no freedom, is to ask them to live “peacefully” as slaves. “Peace” without justice or freedom is slavery. It’s like asking a battered woman to live “peacefully” with her abuse. We all want the bloodshed to stop. But what about the daily humiliation and institutionalized oppression?

I was reminded of a part in “The Hunger Games” when Katniss considers abandoning the resistance against the oppressor, in exchange for “safety”. Gale’s response was telling. He said: “Safe to do what? Starve? Work like slaves? Send their kids to the reaping?”

Consider this: If a woman is being raped, things would be a lot more “peaceful” if she didn’t resist. But, asking her not to resist–just because her attacker is physically stronger–is asking her to accept her own abuse and oppression for the sake of “peace”. This is what the world is asking Palestinians to do.

And sometimes what seems to the world as just ineffective tactics, like throwing a rock at a tank, is in fact an act of resistance. It is a powerful statement to the oppressor–and the world–that they refuse to be enslaved. That dignity and self-respect are even more beloved to them than their own lives.

It is a statement that you can take their lives. But not their freedom.

Oh, Oppressed…don’t be Hopeless!!!

Standard

 gareth-bryant-eid-pics-23.jpg
The Oppressed-Peoples of the World have always been ignored…
…from the Native-Americans and to the Australian-Aborigines…

…The Oppressor has used superiority to seize lands and horde…
…the original inhabitants ridiculed for fighting their enemies…

…Everyone abandons them & the World has their eyes closed…
…just like what happened in Rwanda, no wants to be exposed…

…The international governmental bodies acting as power-proxies…
…used to favor some nations over others, in the interests of monies.

These atrocities stink of all of the blood-soaked concentration-camps of Nazi-Germany.
Ironically, years later, those who were nearly exterminated, do the same, no Humanity.

How can you possibly make claims to want Peace when you are waging the War?
It’s like pretending to be grateful for what you have when you’re greedy for more.

You want the entire World to see you as the Peacemakers…
…but, in all reality, you are the merciless Heartbreakers…

…You are always very quick to play that victim-card…
…while you’re making the lives of the Oppressed hard…

…You bomb cities and villages, schools, and innocents…
…but, when you’re fired back upon, you call it insolence.

My People, from far away: don’t loose hope and don’t go astray…
…keep fighting, for the liberation, for you, Allah will make way…

…You must always keep remembering Allah in all you do…
…so that when your enemies come He grants victory to you.

I want to give You Comfort:

Standard

gareth-bryant-eid-pics-23.jpg

I wish I were there to brush your cheek & dry away the tears…
…to have your head laid against my chest, to calm all your fears.

It would be my joy, if I could expel from your life, all that makes you annoyed…
…this would make me happy, to relieve you from anything you’d want to avoid.

Your anxiety keeps me focused on how important you are to me…
…your sadness makes me even more interested in you as a priority.

My desire to to grant you bliss, from your lips to mine, with just one kiss…
…I want to protect you from insults, envious & poisonous as a snake’s hiss.

When those that hate you, cause you fret, remember that I love you, don’t forget…
…we will always have one another, as companions, friends, as sister & brother.

You’re like a bright jewel in the darkest night’s sky, way upon high…
…you cause me to yearn to grab you and hold you; I wish I could fly.

You are so strong, yet you’re so gentle…
…the way you approach life is so simple.

I’m yours & also you’re mine…
…let’s enjoy each other’s time.

We should run away together, from all the madness…
…be one another’s support, to cure our joint sadness.

I want to stamp out all your troubles, just as we stamp out a poisonous bug…
…the best moment to me is seeing you happy, when I give you a tender hug.

“THE LOVE STORY OF THE SUN AND THE MOON”

Standard

Image

P.S… This story is dedicated to all lovers out there. The story (itself) is purely fictional… I just hope I don’t offend anyone

Allow me to tell you a story… And listen to what I have to say… A love story of the Sun and Moon… And the reason for why it rains…

Long before mankind was created… To live in the drama we call life… A dramatic love affair occurred… In the shadows and darkness of night…

The Sun was a brave and handsome Spirit… He shone the heavens above high… And he wore the finest of armour… That shined like a ruby in the sky…

The Moon was too a beautiful Spirit… She was the Mistress of the night… And the young lovers would dance together… Her evening gown of diamonds bright…

The Sun could see her beautiful face… The Sun could hear her beautiful song… The Sun could use his smell, touch and taste… To experience her sweet embrace…

But their love was strongly forbidden… By jealous Forces in the sky… Warning the Sun to leave his lover… If he didn’t, they threatened he would die…

The Sun did understand the danger… That his actions could lead to his death… But the sun would not leave his lover… He still loved the Moon with his last breath…

His defiance angered the planets… And he was taken to a place to be judged… The Planets also captured his lover… Against the Sun, the Planets held a grudge…

The Sun was stripped of his fine armor… To increase his humiliation… While the Moon could only bear witness… The Sun faced his adjudication…

The Planets charged the Sun… His crime was that he’d fallen in love… How could such an act be accepted?… The stars witnessed from the sky above…

The Plantets then offered to forgive the Sun… If he’d only deny his love for the Moon… The Sun refused to deny his heart… For what else could this young lover do?…

The Planets in their anger, took his eyes, his nose, mouth and ears… So he would not be able to feel her touch… The Moon cried a waterfall of tears…

The Sun was stripped of all his senses… And was left to shame and complete disgrace… But the Sun still rises every morning… Alive, but without a face…

The Moon understood his sacrifice… That was his testimony of love… And has vowed to stay by his side… To eternally dance in the sky above…

The Moon still holds her lover who can’t see… Or even feel the warmth of her touch… He cannot even hear the song she sings… The Moon misses her lover so much…

So the next time rain falls from the sky… Giving water for the earth and all the trees… Think of the Moon who forever cries… For her lover to return to thee…

So the next time it rains water… That falls to give our earth sweet life… Take a moment to reflect on the Moon… who will never be the Sun’s honored wife….

So those that have lost true love… Whatever the reason be… Rise up every morning… And shine for the world to see… And even if your separated, by a fate you can’t control… True love is always destined… Just shine with all your soul

MY FAITH TEACHES ME, THAT…

“There is nothing in the cosmos or on the earth that doesn’t come to the Beneficent as a servant. Certainly He (Allah) comprehends them, and has numbered them all. And everyone of them will be brought back to life, and come to Him on the day of Resurrection…”

But, those who believe and do good deeds, for them the Beneficent will surely bring about love.

The Warmth We yearn from one another:

When the blistering Winter descends…
…We can no longer afford to pretend.

We get cold so quickly, it really hurts…
…We pursue warmth which takes work.

We all want the heat of Love, to warm our heart…
…Each of us wants a companion who’ll never part.

But, Life is sometimes a cruel Snow-Storm, covering all in its path, with the crispest & iciest harshness…
…However, we must make a Summer out of every Winter, protecting our hearts from a freezing-tempest.

We mustn’t succumb to the hypothermia of Loneliness…
…We all need someone to keep us from cold distress.

Being close, to the one who you love, is one of the greatest feelings of all…
…So, think about the one who keeps you warm during the heavy Snow-Fall.

ROARS OF THE RESTLESS:
Patterns of romances
low lights
private dances
signature strike timing
slow trances
Recital
thrown lances
light bites
the plight of the banished
without a standard
no understanding
a clan reprimanded
Plans
paths that never intersect
cattle gaining interest
calves that pay the rent
rattlesnakes in nets
Sweat
treasure in bared chests
reflections of red flares
messy confections
bred best
sleds sent
some bent and some went
Guns kept for your protection
legs stretched
rented apartments and tents
learned little and read best
roars of the restless
Wrapped in heavenly blessings
missing senses and tests
my second death
ascension that dents impressions
no bodies left

Topic: Mothers

Gareth Bryant

Gareth Bryant

Mother are like no Others:

She carried you inside her womb…
…Inside them, we grew to bloom.

In Arabic, Womb means Protection…
…From disease, as well as infection.

We were evolved, developed inside her, for 9-months…
…Though we occupied her space, she didn’t care much.

That’s how much she really loved you…
…The mark of commitment that’s true.

When we came into the Mundane, they dried our tears…
…She rocked us to sleep, calmed our freights and fears.

She taught you how to spell, read and write…
…She taught you how to dress and be polite.

While our Fathers taught us about toughness, they taught, showed, us to love…
…When our peers encourage us to seek vengeance, they teach us to forgive.

Fed you from her plate, starved herself, so that you would have the lion’s share…
…But, when they need us, to help them, we cast them aside & we don’t even care.

Our mothers kept us in their bodies, for almost a whole year…
…The protected us, but, now, we fill their hearts with much fear.

We have the audacity to raise our voices, when they tell us something that we don’t like…
…And, as mothers do, they always are willing to do for us, like nothing happened, so nice.

When Fathers die, or run away, it’s the Mothers who stay the course, and hold things down, without any such complaint…
…This is why Ummah, meaning Society, is from the word Umm, which means Mother; their contributions to our lives great.

A Mother’s Love:

A void that cannot be filled with anything other than Allah

Because when her soul has departed from her body,

There will be no one on the face of this Earth

Who could love you like she did.

Accept you like she did.

Hold, mold, break, shake,

Make you like she did–a mother’s love.

Her body made you, flesh and bones, only by His Will

And no matter how many times you would break the fragile flesh of her heart

The shattered pieces would come together, a perpetual miracle

Because of the Mercy and love placed in it from Allah

A mother’s love.

When you entered the house late at night

Wiped your feet all over your mother’s rights,

Know that it was her love for you that wouldn’t let her go to sleep

And her love for you that gave her grief

And her love for you that kept her pleading to Allah

To protect you from harm’s way, to guide you,

To make firm, in Him, your belief.

A mother’s love.

She enjoyed your childhood for a fleeting moment

Working to feed you, check by check, time stolen

Diapers, Gerber, Similac;

Tears and wailing, she often thinks back.

Though times were harder, it was much sweeter

Because her baby couldn’t disrespect her

But you could as a teenager

With your oppressive behavior

She didn’t know her baby would become her slave master–

Sign of the times. But even when time’s a changin,

What remains the same is

A mother’s love.

Don’t abuse her, ‘cause one day you’ll lose her

Place yourself in the future

Nothing will bring back your mother,

your mother,

your mother.

So love her.

Nothing will bring back her love.
