The Rwanda-Syndrome:

Standard

Author’s-Note:

Allah says in The Qur’ān, “And, don’t allow your Hatred, against any People, prevent you from behaving justly.”.(Noble-Qur’ān: Chpt.8, V.5)

Muhammad (Peace be upon him) said that Allah said, “Oh, My Servants!!! Verily, I’ve made Oppressed Forbidden even upon Myself, as well as between you. So, do not oppress one another.”.(an-Nawawī)

In light of so many Events around our Planet, detailing the constant & consistent Oppression of People, whom are Desperate to be heard, to be listened to, to be helped-Sadly, much like the Carnage which took place during the infamous Rwanda-Conflict, in 1994, C.E., there’s seems to be absolutely zero Change, in terms of how the International-Community chooses to respond to Conflicts which yield levels of Destruction which can’t be defined in any ways other than: Inhumane, Genocidal, etc. And, you’d think that the World would’ve learned from the Errors of Rwanda, as the Nations of our World just stood by and made us watch in agony while they did nothing, as nearly a Million Human-Beings, along with countless other Thousands were: tortured, maimed, raped, murdered, starved-out all in the name of Power & Domination over the Other.(For more Information concerning International-Genocide: http://www.genocidewatch.com)

Ever since the 1990’s, C.E.: there’ve several Nations which have become war-torn, in which untold Millions of Human-Beings have become the subject of Theft, Rape, Murder, etc. With these blatant acts of Genocide being witness before our very eyes, we’ve stayed glued to our Social-Media tools of Communication & Observance, (TV, the News, the Internet, YouTube, etc.) to remain “Aware” of what’s happening. However, unfortunately, that’s largely all we’ve done as a Society is just sit-back and watch, as Multitudes of People just like us: Humans perpetually suffer unjustly. It’s almost as though we’ve become so used to Carnage, that it’s now just another form of Entertainment.

Also, it seems as though the “International-Community” conveniently waits for Conflicts to get at their worsts, before anything substantial is actually done, in order to significantly dispel Oppression around the World. For example: for those of us old enough to remember, the Conflict in Rwanda from beginning to ending was nothing short of the many things which were imposed upon Human-Beings during the Reign of the 3rd-Reich during the WWII-Era (1939-1945, C.E.). The World said “Never Again”, pertaining to the World’s-Nations sitting on the Sidelines as the International “Bullies of da Block” push People around. But, the World hasn’t kept its Word, to maintain Justice for Oppressed-Peoples around the Globe.

Just like what occurred within Rwanda, there’ve been a string of International-Conflicts, either caused by Religious, Ethnic strife between Peoples of the same Nation or imposed upon them by Bullies whom profess to be the Defenders of Freedom…Justice…Equality.

Let’s take a look at some examples of the Rwanda-Syndrome:

  1. Somalia

  1. Afghanistan

  1. Iraq

  1. Syria

  1. Libya

  1. Mali

  1. Sudan

  1. Nigeria

  1. Central African Republic

  1. Burma/Myanmar

  1. Palestine/Israel

  1. Yemen

For Decades, Nations such as these have been torn apart by Conflict, both internally amongst themselves, as well as the Conflicts being catalyzed, arguably even promoted via Western-Colonization, Western-Influence, etc. Whatever the Reason doesn’t really matter. What matters is the fact that these listed Nations have been struck with Conflicts which have completely either broken-down their entire Societies or has left Millions Dead, Maimed, Raped, Displaced/Homeless, Starving, Diseased, and yet there’s been little to nothing done to concretely put an end to the Oppression the Innocents of these Countries are forced to face. Which comes back to my Point, regarding us being self-victimized by the Rwanda-Syndrome: as a Globally-Connected Society, one would think/assume that there’d greater Efforts by the International-Community to resolve such Conflicts. But, this is clearly yet to be seen.

My Question is this though: how many more People have to actually succumb to these types of Atrocities, before we actually get it, that these are Human-Beings who don’t deserve to be treated like this?!!!

My 1st Udhiyyah: What I’ve Learned To Respect And Appreciate About Life&Death:

Standard

Author’s-Note:

Dhul-Hijjah 12, 1438, A.H./September 3, 2017, C.E. I participated in an Islāmic-Tradition, predicated by Islāmic/Revelatory Texts, spanning Several-Generations: al-Udhiyyah/Slaughtering. This Traditional-Slaughtering commemorates the Rites of al-Hajj/Pilgrimage (predicated upon the Sacrifices/Sufferings of Abraham, Sarah, Hagar, Ishmael, Issac [Peace be upon them]), leading up to the Islāmic-Holiday known as Id-ul-Adha/the Celebration of Sacrifice.

For more Information regarding al-Hajj & `Id-il-Adhā:

http://www.garethbryant.wordpress.com/2012/10/01/theoriginsofidiladha/

Annually, the Udhiyyah is done by Millions of Muslims Worldwide, to follow in the Noble-Footsteps of Abraham (Peace be upon him). It was now my turn to participate in this great Tradition. I was so excited, to actually do something such a Part of Islām, so deeply entrenched into Islāmic-History. There was 1-Challenge: I had never done this before. I had a Million plus 1 Anxieties regarding the Experience. And, to add to my Self-Awkwardness, I had gotten into a Fight with a Man who tried to rob me a Week prior to me participating in the Udhiyyah. So, it was still very much fresh on my Mind/Heart. As I got to the Farm I did the Udhiyyah at: my Nerves were shot. I did nothing for the first few Hours there but ask the same Types of Questions in various different ways. I was able to reinforce what I already knew regarding Udhiyyah & also learned a host of interesting New-Things as well.

The Things which are Generally-Essential to know before one commits themselves to do Udhiyyah/Qurbānī:

1. Pure-Intention for Allah, as Udhiyyah/Qurbānī is a Sacred Act-Of-Worship.

2. No Body-Hair or Nails can be cut/removed prior to the 10th-Day of Dhil-Hijjah (the 12th-Month of the Islāmic-Calendar: the Month of Hajj/Pilgrimage).(Muslim, Ahmad)

3. The Animals slaughtered can only be Animals which are Islāmically-Allowable to consume Dietarily…specifically for Qurbānī (Hajj-Time Slaughtering/Sacrifice: Cows, Camels, Goats, Sheep. (Noble-Qur’ān: Chpt.22, 34)

4. The Animals slaughtered must be Healthy (no Signs of Ill-Treatment, Malnurishment, Abuse, Deformity, Disease, etc.).(al-Muwatta’)

5. The Animals slaughtered must be slaughtered at the following Ages, in order to qualify as Qurbānī: 6-Months to a Year for Sheep, 1-2 Years for Goats, 2-3 Years for Cows, 5-Years for Camels. This is according to the various Fatawa/Islāmic-Rulings of the 4-Major Madhāhib/Islāmic Legal-Schools: the Hanafī-School…Mālikī-School…Shāfi`ī-School…Hanbalī-School.(http://www.islamqa.info/en/41899)

6. The Animals slaughtered cannot/shouldn’t be Pregnant (this is the Position of the Shāfi`ī-School).(https://islamqa.info/en/192041)

6. The Blades/Knives used to slaughter the Animals must be as Sharp as Humanly-Possible & the Animals must be slaughtered across the Neck: forcefully & swiftly, ensuring that the least amount of Pain/Suffering is inflicted upon the Animals & the Animals must not see the Blades/Knives used for Udhiyyah, nor must they be slaughtered within the Presence of other Animals.(https://islamqa.info/en/153936)

So, the Day of the Udhiyyah: basically from Fajr/Pre-Dawn to Maghrib/Sunset we were working on the Farm…it was serious Work. There were so many Animals which we had to get slaughtered. Then it came to my Turn. Internally, I honestly started having 2nd-Thoughts. So many Things came to my Mind like: “What if I cause this Animal more Pain than necessary?!!!”…”What if I begun to use my still fresh Anger over the Fight I had & end-up oppressing this Animal with too much Force?!!!”…”What if I completely screw-up the Udhiyyah?!!!”…etc. But, then I just decided to cast my Fears into the Wind by relying upon Allah to help me through it, which He did. And, considering the Fact that I was a 1st-Timer doing Udhiyyah, even the Farm-Hands confirmed that I did a Good-Job, which was very Comforting to my Ego. In total, I slaughtered 3-Goats personally with my own Hands & assisted with the Slaughtering of about 20 other Sheep & Goats combined. Let me tell you: taking the Life of an Animal that Size is truly a Sight to see.

Normally, externally of this Event, Regular-People such as myself don’t live on Farms, aren’t as in tune with Fitrah/Nature the way we ought to be, as Humans. And, for those of us whom are confined to Concrete City-Life: the closest we get to Fitrah are Household Vermin, such as Roaches & Rats & Creatures we generally deem a Nusance, such as Squarels, Opposums, Raccoons, etc. However, to actually up close & personally slaughter an Animal which you know will eventually be on someone’s Plate for Meals, it truly forced me to reflect more introspectively concerning how precious & fragile Life itself really is. Also, it forced me to be ever more Grateful to Allah that I’m a Human & not an Animal. It compelled me, this Experience, to look at the Fragility of Life & Reality of Death this more Seriously. One instant, we’re here & the next, we’re gone: just like that.

When coming back to New York City from the Farm, I wasn’t/didn’t allow myself to shake the Psycho-Emotional relevance of what I’ve experienced via Udhiyyah/Qurbānī: being recallibrated & reconnected with/to the Natural-Environment…the smells of Grass, Hay, Livestock, the Large Rolling-Hills & Tree-Covered Mountains…the Muddy-Terrain which nearly ruined my already Dirty-Nikes…the Blood of the Slaughtered-Animals…the freshness & ordors of the Flesh of the Animals sacrificed. All of it was worthwhile, an Experience which I wish/hope that Allah always preserves within my Memory-Bank. And, yes: I plan to definitely do Udhiyyah/Qurbānī more often.

Apathetic Times

Standard

We live in the days of Malice…
…selfishness make us callous.

All we desire is to pursue our own wants…
…we live by immorality, demonic thoughts.

All day in, all day out…
…we complain & shout.

Forgetting just all too often…
…to be grateful for something.

We look down upon those who have less…
…thinking material things equal success.

It’s like we only concern ourselves with Fashion’s latest trends…
…or how many millions our favorite celebrity makes and spends.

We worry too much about when’s the next time we will eat Steak or Lobster…
…while millions of People on the Planet die because they lack clean Water.

But, in the end, we just chase the Illusion…
…to an dauntingly never ending conclusion.

We perceive that this is all there is to life…
…attaining things while causing others strife.

There will be a day when we will regret not caring for one another…
…we’ll be shamed for treating our fellow Man as less than a brother.

There will be fear, we will shed tears…
…and know that this day is very near.

Yasmin Mogahed’s position on the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict:

Standard

Yasmin Mogahed pic

Author’s-Note:
Yasin Mogahed’s spin on the issue takes us to a place that we ca all relate to: it sets us up & forces us to truly reflect upon the different scenarios that she presents, and how we would view them, had they been in place of the Palestinian-Israeli issue.

I used to wonder why some Palestinian people would engage in actions that could only provoke the aggressor further. Then I realized that to ask a people to live quietly, while they have no justice and no freedom, is to ask them to live “peacefully” as slaves. “Peace” without justice or freedom is slavery. It’s like asking a battered woman to live “peacefully” with her abuse. We all want the bloodshed to stop. But what about the daily humiliation and institutionalized oppression?

I was reminded of a part in “The Hunger Games” when Katniss considers abandoning the resistance against the oppressor, in exchange for “safety”. Gale’s response was telling. He said: “Safe to do what? Starve? Work like slaves? Send their kids to the reaping?”

Consider this: If a woman is being raped, things would be a lot more “peaceful” if she didn’t resist. But, asking her not to resist–just because her attacker is physically stronger–is asking her to accept her own abuse and oppression for the sake of “peace”. This is what the world is asking Palestinians to do.

And sometimes what seems to the world as just ineffective tactics, like throwing a rock at a tank, is in fact an act of resistance. It is a powerful statement to the oppressor–and the world–that they refuse to be enslaved. That dignity and self-respect are even more beloved to them than their own lives.

It is a statement that you can take their lives. But not their freedom.

Oh, Oppressed…don’t be Hopeless!!!

The Oppressed-Peoples of the World have always been ignored…

…The Oppressor has used superiority to seize lands and horde…
…the original inhabitants ridiculed for fighting their enemies…

…Everyone abandons them & the World has their eyes closed…

…The international governmental bodies acting as power-proxies…

These atrocities stink of all of the blood-soaked concentration-camps of Nazi-Germany.
Ironically, years later, those who were nearly exterminated, do the same, no Humanity.

How can you possibly make claims to want Peace when you are waging the War?
It’s like pretending to be grateful for what you have when you’re greedy for more.

You want the entire World to see you as the Peacemakers…
…but, in all reality, you are the merciless Heartbreakers…

…You are always very quick to play that victim-card…
…while you’re making the lives of the Oppressed hard…

…You bomb cities and villages, schools, and innocents…
…but, when you’re fired back upon, you call it insolence.

My People, from far away: don’t loose hope and don’t go astray…
…keep fighting, for the liberation, for you, Allah will make way…

Who gets to decide what a Genocide or Holocaust is?

Standard

gareth-bryant-eid-pics-23.jpg

There are those who would dare to argue that what’s going on around the World, pertaining to the proliferation of unwarranted Human-Life being mercilessly taken, that only certain types of carnage qualifies to be considered a “Genocide” a “Holocaust”, etc. Well, for those of you who may take this view:

Does it really even matter whether or not Hundreds, Thousands, or Millions of People were killed in one day, one week, one month, one year, one decade, one score, one century, one millennium? No, the point is that all these People were killed. So, in this case, it doesn’t really matter whether People suffered very unnecessary casualties in a year, or within a span of nearly a Century: Human-Life is Human-Life & Allah states that to kill even just one person out of injustice is just like killing the entire Human-Race.(Noble Qur’an: Chpt.5, V.32) And, since this is the case, then, the unjust killing of any Human being, whether it be a Million, a Thousand, a Hundred, or just One, whatever: based upon what Allah, Himself, has stated, the killing of one Man is just like the killing of all Men, and that is a Genocide, a Holocaust, by definition.

What if the Children of Israel never attempted to kill Jesus…
…what if he stayed long enough for his miracles to reach us?

What if David didn’t have the courage to defeat Goliath…

What if Moses never went atop Mount-Sinai & saw the Burning-Bush…
…or, if the one who took him from water never bothered to take a look?

Imagine Abraham never leaving Ishmael in the Arabian-Desert…
…would they’ve built the Ka`bah or learn joy after suffering hurt?

Think if Noah was never saved from the Great-Flood, by building the Ark…
…would Humanity have survived, or, would we have still been in the dark?

Think about how it would be, had Adam & Eve had never eaten from that Tree…

It would be wonderful, to witness the change that so many fought & died for…
…I guess that’s just wishful-thinking, unless we’re willing to fight & die for more.

Mercy on Wheels: Muslims Giving Back’s Project: #Transform

Standard

Mercy on Wheels Rania

Allah states, within His Book, “Verily with hardship is ease.”.(Noble Qur’an: Chpt.94, V.5)

With that being said, we, as Muslims, always work hard to attain patience, in order attain the Help of Allah, the Creator/Lord of the Universe. But, also, those who help those who are in need, on any/all levels, empower themselves, will, as well, attain the Help of Allah, if we’re sincere to serve Him, as well as help others. So, that’s exactly what Muslims Giving Back is all about: serving Allah via serving our fellow Man.

And, one of the greatest examples of this service-thru-service is one of our most successful projects, to date: #Transform & #MercyOnWheels. These two respective intersecting projects involve the following:

1. Taking someone who is going through a tough time (impoverished, homeless, etc.) and treating them to an entire day of stress-free, work-free leisure: we take them shopping, take them to spas, etc.

2. We repair the homes of those who may not afford individual costs of home-repairs, along with (depending on te need) purchase furniture, food, clothes, etc.: whatever they may need for their homes.

3. Auto-repair/replacement: we assist people who have car-problems, by either getting their respectful vehicles repaired, or assist in completely replacing their old vehicles with newer ones.

These two respective projects, among all our other ventures, really change people’s lives for the better. And, we hope to only be those that Allah describes in the verse of His Noble-Book, state previously, as being “ease”. It is our sole-intent to be the vessels in which Allah uses, at all times, to be the reasons why people are able to rise above their respective tests, calamities, hardships, etc.

The necessity for those who have more to give to those who have less are t many of the standards which Muslims Giving Back stands by…Our signature Motto: #NoHumanLeftBehind represents our never-ending goal to be of service to the Creation of our Creator, at any time, in any place, with whatever capacity that we can muster. We, as Muslims, as Human beings, have been thus mandated, by Allah, to always be willing, able, etc., to be of ease, the ease, that Allah speaks about in the above verse from the Qur’an, for other experiencing hardship.

Why Hawaiians dislike White-People

Standard

James Ferguson

Author’s-Note:
James Ferguson, one of my dear Muslim-Brothers: very intellectually well-appointed, and factually sound, has decide to grant us commentary of the hypocrisy of what most call American-Democracy, which has always, historically & contemporaneously, been used as a euphemism of American-Conquest. He talks about the waning reign of the Kingdom  of Hawaii, which was, at her time, basically, the last sovereign nation in the Pacific.

Hawaiian Queen

The native population at the time absolutely was not in favour in becoming a state. Hawaii became a state through a process to similar to countless other peoples who were subjugated to colonial-masters, subterfuge, pretext and force. Briefly, the actual King, himself, was overthrown by the Honolulu-Rifles, a Anglo-Protestant militia-group, when the King refused to renew the Reciprocity-Treaty. This treaty  was a ‘free-trade’ agreement and had lead to a large influx of US investment in Hawaii’s sugar-plantations. The treaty also gave the US lands in what is now known Pearl-Harbor. The treaty was extremely unpopular with the locals, and when some of the natives had protested the taking of those lands by the US, they were repressed by US-Marines.

The Militia established a pliable puppet king and also imposed racist polices including disenfranchising all Asians and imposing such onerous property and income restrictions on voting that the minority white population controlled 75% of the eligible votes. There was a failed counter-coup to restore the Monarchy. And when the puppet king died, his successor-daughter, Lilioukalani, upon ascension to the throne, received petitions from about 2/3 of the Native population to restore the old-order and to remove the US-Military presence from the islands.

The Queen was blocked in her attempts to do so by the ‘Committee for Safety’, and eventually she was forced to resign. At which point the Committee, with the support of the Honolulu Rifles, created the ‘Provisional Government of Hawaii’ led by Stanford Dole, a white guy, to negotiate the annexation of Hawaii by the US. So yeah: not exactly a process that had the support of the majority of the native population, but I guess it did have the majority of the voting population.

Additionally, you find antagonism today, because it is perceived that that manifest injustice still has a real effect to this day. For example, the Caribbean is littered with islands where the descendants of slave masters still dominate the islands economically, and thus politically. The most extreme example is probably Bermuda, where the old families still control the best land, dominate all the major companies, marry within themselves (or wealthy white outsiders), and get insider access and can thus protect and entrench their positions. The locals get fed the lie that the past is irrelevant to their current disenfranchised positions and that if they would just world harder they too could send their children to Eton.
